L Visas

Illinois L Visa and Employee Transfer Attorney

Depending on the U.S. affiliations of your company, you may be eligible to enter the United States temporarily to work under an L visa. If your company has a subsidiary or affiliate or branch office in the U.S., you may be eligible to qualify for an L work visa, also called the sister company visa.

At the law firm of Ana M. Mencini & Associates, P.C., we dedicate our immigration law practice to helping temporary workers apply for and secure the work visa they need. Our firm has helped numerous businesses, from startups to large corporations, obtain L visas. We understand how important the flow of international workers between business entities is for the continued growth of a company, and our experience as immigration attorneys gives us the knowledge to help you through the process.

L Visas: L-1A for Managers and L-1B for Specialized Workers

In order to qualify for an L visa, an employer or worker must show the following:

  • Proof of the connection between the foreign company and the U.S. company or office, either as branch offices, affiliates, sister companies or subsidiaries
  • Temporary nature of employment, unless the worker files for an extension
  • Proof that the worker has been employed by the company on a full-time basis for at least one continuous year
  • Executive or manager skills of worker filing for L-1A visa
  • Specialized knowledge of employee filing for L-1B visa

Intracompany transfers are not as common as the H-1B work visa or other employment visas, and there are no limits on the number of L visas issued each year. Illinois immigration lawyer Ana M. Mencini has significant experience with these types of work visas and can help you through the process.

Similar to other nonimmigrant employment visas, the L visa holder may apply for a permanent work visa and adjustment of status. Our firm can help file petitions for L visas and continue to assist you as you seek permanent residence.
